When I was young and lived with my mother, I would make fun of the way she would cut out the names of the companies and tape them to her bill and financial organizer. I would call her an Obsessive-compulsive (OCD) and she would say ” your my son and one day you will have it too” and guess what? Now I do have a mild case of OCD. As I got older I realized that what she was doing was part of what kept her credit score so high, what helped her to pay all her bills on time and what would eventually lead her to the financial freedom she enjoys today.
I keep almost every thing I have to do on my laptop in a notepad file (Yes notepad, I tried excel but notepad works better for me). The reason I do this is simple, it keeps my life organize and organization is very important when it comes to your money. If you don’t know where every penny of your money comes from and where it needs to go you are not in control of your money.
The point I’m taking so long to make is, the best place to start your journey to financial freedom is to start with your every day task. Start writing down every little thing you have to do. keep an organizer with you always and check it after every task is finished or postponed, reorganized at the end of the day and learn to make it a part of your everyday life. I use my laptop and my Samsung smart phone and I sync them every night, you can use a piece of paper and a pen or what ever you have.
At first it might seem bothersome, but give it three weeks and I bet you this little, but important task will change you life and the way you spend money. It’s no use keeping track of what you have to do if you do not take the time to do them, start slow and work it in to your routine. Like everything worth doing it will take time and effort to learn how to make it work, but the rewards will be great.
Your financial life style should be closely monitored on a day to day basis. Watching what you spend, knowing how your investments are proforming and how much and when you have money coming in. This will help you make better financial decisions and be more flexible when needed. Billion dollar companies keep track of their finances, rich people have accountants that keep track of their money, so what makes your money any different.
If you do not have an organizer, go out a get one at the dollar store, it will do the same job that a $50 organizer does and you will get the same results. Keeping organized will save you time, money, stress, and keep you on the path to your goals. Do your self a favor and try it for three weeks. It will be the best dollar you ever spent.
