Is it better to be poor and happy or rich and unhappy? I know you can be happy and rich or unhappy and poor, but if you had to choose which would you prefer. I can say with confidence that most of you would choose being poor and happy. Being rich and unhappy is an oxymoron in a way. I think the point of being rich is so we can have more time to do what we want and love. Right? More time to spend with our families, travel, or just sit on our butts until we feel like moving. Rich and unhappy has never made sense to me.
From the start, we are thought to work hard and make as much money as possible. We usually do our best in school to earn a degree, we get a job and work until we get too old and retire. The problem with this is, many people end up working in jobs that they hate, but can’t quite because they have to make payment’s on their fancy cars and pretty homes. They spend 8 to 12 hours a day working, to pay for the things that they never get to enjoy. They have a nice fancy car that only take them to work and a huge home that is only used to sleep in. This is what we strive for!
I am not saying to give away your things and go live in a cardboard box. NO! What I’m saying is, if your going to be doing something for the next 35 to 40 years, why not do something you at least like. There is no one that can make be believe, they can’t make money doing what they love to do. This is America and everything is for sale, we can buy dirt, air, water, we even pay people to tell us what to buy.
I would rather be poor doing what I love, than to be rich doing what I hate. From a young age; even before I had to think about work, I would stop doing something if I did not like doing it. My friends always got mad, but what can they say. If I did not like to do whatever it was we were doing, they had to give me a superb reason to continue.
Most of us were told that we can be whatever we want to be and this does not stop at doctors or lawyers. If you want to be a cowboy, dressed in your underwear, playing your guitar in the middle of Time Square, YOU CAN!
